VROOOM
Collective art show ‘Vrooom’ presented a selection of new works by daring digital artists Martin Boettger, Roberts Jansons, Kevin Dubau and Pablo Iglesias (Geso) at UNTITLED Gallery, from October 22nd until November 13th. 2023. The show was the official opening of this new project space in Berlin dedicated to new tendencies in art.

For this occasion I created two new video art pieces, exact loops, meant to be presented in vertical screens.

The Roads Taken (2023).
We drive ourselves through this life, sometimes following a map, sometimes guided by intuition. We get to an intersection and we have to decide what’s the right path. Nobody says you can’t turn back but certainly going back doesn’t mean to arrive to the same point where we deviated, time is ticking and that place and even ourselves are not the same. So it’s always a straight forward route. How many dead ends we will encounter in our journey? Is the end of this journey a new beginning? We are the driver, the passenger, the vehicle (a vessel) and the roads taken.

Transform (2023).
It’s said that every journey change ourselves, giving us new experiences and perspectives. We will never be the same person that started it. If we understand our existence as a journey and our bodies as the vehicles, what’s the fuel that moves us forward? Some might say ‘love’, others might say ‘dreams’, or a sense of ‘purpose’, like a mission that we discover down the road. Every turn, every burst of speed, break, accident, stop… are essential parts of a process to transform. And sometimes we are requested to burn down and surrender ourselves in order to arrive to the true destination.

I always felt a big fascination, maybe obsession, for cars. It’s almost a kind of fetish, not only for its aerodynamic shapes, futurist designs and its shining metallic surfaces… but even more for the wrecks after an accident, the scraps and junk pieces left behind, the smashed glass, the dirt, the insides, the fluids, the metal bent in such ways… like Speed and Chance being two genius sculptors endlessly working in the ultimate representation of human fragility. We, as drivers or passengers, are witness and souls of these works.
